Though no one asked for it, Fox has gotten with “X-Files” creator Chris Carter and called up six more episodes of the landmark series. I guess this is an apology for the lousy last movie they made, which was little more than an expensive episode. There were TV episodes that were far better.
Thankfully, Carter was able to bring back the original Fox Mulder and Dana Scully (David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) as well as some other familiar faces. From prelim interviews, it also sounds like this isn’t a money grab for the creators; they genuinely want to further explore these characters onscreen.
Six episodes is a good taste, but not so expensive when you’re making a second attempt to grab lightning in a bottle.
Fox pulled the same magic with “24: Live Another Day.” Of course, that series was serviceable but didn’t live up to the high expectations of “24.” And had a shitty ending.
Here’s to hoping the return of “The X-Files” fares better. We’ll know on January 24, 2016.
