I’ll admit it. I wasn’t impressed with the casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. All I’d seen her in was the “Fast and Furious” movies, and she wasn’t more than eye candy.
One could argue that’s all women do in those movies, but that’s a hollow argument. Look at the meaty role Michelle Rodriguez forced her way into. And why would the likes of Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron want to dive into the series if the women parts were flat?
No, Gadot didn’t seem credible for a part as important culturally as Wonder Woman.
Important, you ask?
In honor of the celebration of America’s independence from the United Kingdom, I’m reviewing a tale about America’s favorite Marvel comic book patriot, Captain America.
In 2005, writer Ed Brubaker and artist Steve Epting relaunched the “Captain America” series with a story arc called “Out of Time.” This was a prelude to the following arc, the one that would ultimately rock the Captain’s history to its core and gives us one of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
That story arc was the “The Winter Soldier.”

With “The Purge: Election Year” out this weekend, I felt it appropriate to take a look back at my review for the first “Purge” sequel, “The Purge: Anarchy.” It feels particularly appropriate in an age of Donald Drumpf, the rise of income inequality and Brexit.
Though I hear Jon Bernthal did well as the Punisher in the Netflix “Daredevil” series, I still wish Frank Grillo wore the skull. He was great as Crossbones, but truly a waste of his grit. Continue Reading →
