Outside, Iron Man took down two more guards. Two more emerged from the warehouse to replace them. They fired on the hero, but none of their shots came close to the silver and red streak flying above them.

“They’re shooting like they’ve been drinking!” Iron Man told Friday.

“I am compensating for your drinking,” Friday responded.

“You keep it up! Just don’t make me do any crazy turns, okay?”

He took a shot at one of the guards by the warehouse entrance, taking him down.

And then KGBeast emerged, firing his machine gun hand. His shot went wide, but Iron Man didn’t want to take the chance of the man hitting him. He’d already wrecked two suits.

Before Iron Man could fire, KGBeast hit his right gauntlet with a burst from his machine gun.

“Do not fire your right Repulsor!” Friday warned. “Damage to it would cause the gauntlet to detonate.”

“Great!” Iron Man replied.

He dodged blasts from two of the three remaining guards, but KGBeast hit him with another shot, this one scarring his chest plate. The burst spun him around. He lost control of his flight and crashed hard on the ground.

“I really hate that guy,” Iron Man muttered.

In the warehouse, Bane crossed the room and grabbed at Batman. The Dark Knight knocked Bane’s arm aside and punched the criminal straight in his solar plexus. The blow would cripple a normal man.

The brute looked at Batman and smiled.

Behind the men, Vanko worked at the computers, frantically re-routing control cables to computers that had survived the electromagnetic pulse from the Batarang.

Bane threw another punch at Batman, but the vigilante feinted. Bane missed.

Batman didn’t.

His uppercut slammed into Bane’s lower jaw, forcing the man to stumble backward. Bane quickly recovered, looked to Batman. He then reached for the dial on his arm and twisted.

Batman saw a green gas flow from the backpack to the mask on Bane’s face. Bane’s eyes turned green and flashed with rage.

Just beyond Bane, Batman saw the Black Widow enter the room. She analyzed the scene, then ran straight to Vanko.

Batman didn’t have the chance to react to the new player.

Bane roared as he came at Batman.

Meanwhile, outside the warehouse, KGBeast and the remaining three guards made a half circle around the fallen Iron Man. Stark got to his knees before them. KGBeast aimed his hand weapon at him.

“Getting sick of shooting you out of the sky,” KGBeast said.

“Getting sick of getting shot,” Iron Man said over his speaker.

He punctuated the comment with a shot from his left Repulsor that hit KGBeast square in the stomach.

The other guards fired on Iron Man but did nothing more than scorch the earth around him.

KGBeast recovered too quickly for Iron Man’s taste. The one-handed criminal charged Iron Man, belting him in the helmet with his machine gun hand. Iron Man fell on his back.

KGBeast stood over him, his gun aimed at his helmet.

“It will be an honor killing the capitalist swine Iron Man!” KGBeast said while showing a murderous smile.

“This is gonna hurt,” Iron Man said over his speaker.

“Yes, it will,” KGBeast said.

“For both of us,” Iron Man replied.

He then lifted his right hand between them and fired the Repulsor.

As Friday had warned, the gauntlet exploded.

While Iron Man battled KGBeast outside, Batman grappled with Bane inside.

The terrorist leader pinned the vigilante’s arms at his sides. Batman head-butted Bane. The pain of the blow to Bane made his grip loosen. Batman gained just enough leverage to slip out of the criminal’s grasp.

Moving behind Bane, Batman grabbed the tubes coming from the pack and ripped them loose. A brief spray of whatever chemical went from the pack, then it ceased. Batman deduced the pack had an automatic shutoff valve.

Either way, the gas wouldn’t help Bane anymore.

The criminal did not like this.

He yelled again, then swung a hulking arm around and slammed into Batman, knocking the Dark Knight to the ground a few feet away.

Then Batman heard the whirl of robotics.

Vanko had brought the knock-off Legionnaire back online.

To be continued…
