The “Shadowdance” urban fantasy saga is all about music. Imagine my joy when friends made theme music for the saga!
Origins of the “Shadowdance” music
My friend Robert “Big Bob” Colwell was inspired by the title of my once and future “Shadowdance” movie, “Wake the Darkness.”
He enlisted the aid of several musical friends, chief among them Mike Blaty and Tom DeBois (seen above in the header; Tom on the left, Mike in the middle and Bob on the right), to create a theme song for the movie.
This is the song they produced, composed, played — all that jazz. Matt Waldeck put together the lyric video.
But wait! There’s more! They even put together a remix!
How “Underworld” fits the “Shadowdance” theme song
I conceived the “Shadowdance” saga back in the mid-nineties, before “Buffy,” before “Blade.” Hell, “urban fantasy” wasn’t even a genre back then!
Imagine my chagrin/ surprise/ “Hey! This could actually work!” thoughts when I saw Kate Beckinsale in leather as a vampire fighting werewolves (lycans? really?) in “Underworld.”
Flash forward to today.
On a lark, I cut footage from “Underworld” and “Underworld Evolution” to the “Wake the Darkness” remix just to get a feel.
(Obviously, I don’t own the rights to “Underworld.” I just wanted the thought experiment to lose the movie’s nu-metal and go for some soul.)
Think of it as temp footage until we get “Wake the Darkness” made. If you dig either version of the song, check out Big Bob’s Bandcamp site for that and more.
Wanna see how the song came together? I made a whole documentary series on it you can watch on the Tube of You. Click here for “Creating Darkness.”

And what you’ve waited for! The remix of the “Wake the Darkness” song with an ode to “Underworld!”
