“Add to that,” Stark continued, “I’m not a fan of seeing my tech turned into internment camps for people who dared to be born with an extra gene that gives them superpowers.”

Fury pointed his index finger at Stark. “Don’t go there, Tony.”

“Why? Still trying to figure out how to legally separate yourself from Trask and his Sentinels? Or still upset that when word got out about the Raft, the tide turned against the anti-mutant sentiment enough to get it shut down?”

Fury lowered his hand. He turned his back on Stark. “That’s politics, Tony. I may not like it, but I know where my funding comes from.” Fury looked over his shoulder at Stark. “It would appear I can’t count on you.”

“Not if it’s going to cost the lives of innocent people. No matter what their power level.”

Fury let that go unanswered. He reached into a jacket pocket and pulled out an eight-inch tablet. He tossed it to Stark. The man juggled it twice before catching it.

“Glad we agree on that,” Fury said. “Because some of your tech got loose.”

Stark glanced at Fury, then at the tablet. He saw pictures of a rustic town straight out of Cold War America. A building near the outskirts of town was on fire.

Swiping to another picture, Stark saw a closer shot of the burning building. It had a blown-out wall. Several metal crates were inside, scattered, some obviously missing. As he scanned through more pictures, Fury continued.

“You’re looking at a shit hole town in some upstate New York shithole. Former KGB armory we turned into a storage facility.”

“What bothers you more?” Stark began. “That the KGB had a place in upstate New York or that your guys lost something from it.”

Fury ignored the taunt. “What we lost, Mr. Stark, is a crate of Mandroid power gauntlets.”

Stark looked to Fury, blinked once. “And?”

Fury returned Stark’s blank stare with a disgruntled look. Stark didn’t give.

“You want me to say it?” Fury asked.

Stark nodded. Fury was about to speak when Stark motioned for him to wait a moment. He patted his person as if looking for something. “Hold on,” he said. “I want to record this.”

“We need your help finding the stuff,” Fury said while turning away from Stark.

“Dammit! Told ya to wait!”

Fury turned on Stark. “This is potentially serious, Stark! Odds are it was ex-KGB who knew about the stash. If that Mandroid weaponry gets on the black market —”

Fury stopped when he heard twin booster rockets approaching. He had a SHIELD team watching his back from a couple of flying cars. If whatever was coming was a threat, they would have eliminated it and let him know over his earpiece.

Stark instantly recognized the sound as the rockets in the boots of his Iron Man armor. A moment later, said armor flew up the side of the Lounge and hovered in view.

“Excuse the interruption, Mr. Stark,” said the suit’s female digital voice.

“Boring conversation anyway,” Stark said. He turned to his suit. “What’s up Friday?”

“An alert at the Gotham Convention Center,” Friday replied.

Stark glanced at Fury. “Think I better take this call,” he said.

Here’s the full-length promo video for my action urban fantasy book, Two Sisters. It’s part of my “Shadowdance” series. Don’t worry; it’s under forty seconds but has elements of the three influences on the saga as a whole. Writing is easy. Marketing is hard.
